One thing is guarantied when you read through the credits of a CD and see Steve Jones at the production helm. You are guaranteed a sonic onslaught of high-octane guitars and some seriously furious heavy riffing. That is certainly the case with American Pearl. One of a new bunch of rockers, American Pearl don't totally fit into the nu-breed category that so many others do. These guys have a strong modern rock edge and have certainly utilized many modern production techniques, but their sound is more or less rooted in classic LA style sleaze rock, with an absolute ton of attitude, a loud wall of guitars and a stadium rock feel. With Steve Jones (Sex Pistols, Neurotic Outsiders, Andy Taylor) at the helm, the guys have guaranteed themselves a classy production sound and Jones, who shares a similar passion and attitude, has helped bring the band's best to the front. | |||
With the exception of the outstanding rock anthems California and Amphetamine Girl, the guys could use some extra song writing help in the chorus department. The songs have some great lead guitar hooks, are sonically near perfect and very enjoyable to listen to, but might just be missing the odd hook or two that would have delivered a knockout punch. But that is the only real thing I can see that would improve this otherwise excellent example of in your face hard rock with attitude.
