Burning Rain is the new band project from ex-Bad Moon Rising and Hurricane guitarist Doug Aldrige. Joining Doug is vocalist Keith St. John. The band was formed out of the demise of Bad Mood Rising and returns to the traditional sounds of typical US/UK style hard rock, rather than the alternative friendly grunge overload of the last BMR album. Even after the first listen this CD is doing more for me than expected. And it only gets better. Vocalist St. John is a mix of Coverdale, Plant, Ray Gillen and maybe some Paul Rodgers. The production is sharp and snappy and the songs are very good. That is, if you are looking for a good solid hard rock album in the traditional style of things. Smooth Locomotion is solid hard rock, Superstar Train is more blues drenched rock in the tradition of Badlands and Jungle Queen has a killer Whitesnake intro that leads to more Plant/Badlands blues hard rock. Making My Heart Beat is very familiar melodic hard rock. | ||
Familiar yes, but done lately? No - therefore it is most welcome! Rather than do every track, I want to say that I wasn't expecting anything from the album, I went in without any opinion other than I hated the last BMR album. This album is a welcome return to form for Aldrich and the guys he has playing with him are nothing less than awesome. If you are looking for a solid rock album - this is going to go down very well indeed. Eleven tracks of blues drenched hard rock with guitar everywhere and not a sign of anything modern or grungy. Peter - not quite 95%, but hopefully close enough! A class release with class songs. | PRODUCTION: 92% | SONGS: 89% | VIBE: 91% | ATTITUDE: 93% | ESSENTIAL FOR: All fans of solid and traditional & blues influenced hard rock. Some Badlands and Whitesnake fans. |
