Proof Through The Night is David Victor of Velocity's own solo album that was actually recorded prior to that album. 1991 in fact. Like solo albums tend to be, this is a more commercial and radio friendly album that showcases David's influences from such solo stars as Rick Springfield. This album although recorded in '91, could have easily been done in the mid 80's, without it now sounding dated. The tunes are readily accessible and more than commercial, containing plenty of hooks and memorable choruses. I also like this side of David's voice better than I do on Velocity. Their harder edge tends to lose the impact that his voice has on this more AOR material. The only fault I can pick with the album is the production quality. The sound is a little muddy in places and thin through a couple of other areas. But it doesn't take much away from the amazing amount of hooks and anthems in play. | ||||||||||

Getaway Machine opens the album with a guitar riff and vocal that immediately reminds me of Rick Springfield in Living In Oz mode. The hook and chorus are as big as anything else I have heard this year. A great vocal over a couple of octaves. Best heard loud! Best track of the album. Tears Like Rain has that solo artist vibe again. Another really strong song with a big chorus and massive backing vocals. American Eyesis an acoustic guitar lead mid tempo tune. Almost a ballad, but it picks up pace in the chorus. To The Top reminds me of any number of late 80's soundtrack tunes. Big Survivor like rocker with more of those big backing vocals. Proof Through The Night is the major surprise track on the album. A wonderfully subtle track that features David's vocals over equally subtle guitar playing. Mid song a soft drum beat joins in, but it is a really smooth and original ballad. Look What You Did To My Heart starts as a ballad and almost stays that way apart from the big tempo lifting chorus. An AOR anthem. One Minute is a big harder rocker that is closer to the Velocity album than anything else on proof Through The Night. Catchy but not bad. We Go Tonight rocks pretty hard again. Not as fast paced as One Minute and more an anthem. Plenty of hooks and backing vocals. Stand By You is uptempo and rocks like the last track. Same qualities, but not as strong as the early album material. Summer Rain is much the same again. I like this track the best of the last three though. It offers a bit more originality. The fast that David played most of the instruments himself is further reason to credit his talent and recommend that fans of American late 80's FM hard rock and AOR check this out.
