Lord Grey is of course the very first album recorded featuring Savannah's vocalist Earl Lord and drummer Tony Silva. It has remained unreleased until now and I have to say of all archive releases out there, this is a welcomed addition to the family. Lord Grey is very much in the same vein as Savannah, but a little less with the Journey comparisons and more with the straight ahead melodic rock that bands like Danger Danger and Prophet forged ahead with. This early taste of Earl Lord compares strongly with Ted Poley and the music is straight up guitar and keyboards mixed American melodic rock. The songs are all good quality and the production shapes up favourably, although this is obviously dated in the sense that it was recorded in the late 80's. Savannah bassist Marc Kolodziej plays on several tracks, so the comparisons to that band only get stronger. | |||
