This is one heavy ass rock n roll record! Pontus Norgren is one of Sweden's finest guitar players and has teamed up with one of the countries best vocalists and also one of my current favourite singers in Mats Levin.
Norgren's previous bands include Great King Rat and Jeckle & Hyde. This is his most personal album to date and possibly his best. It is certainly his heaviest.
The furious guitar pounding aside, this is not your Yngwie like shred fest, it is more a melodic metal album that is balanced by variations in the songs.
Mats Levin sings his ass off as usual, in a heavier style than we are normally accustomed to. Not as heavy as his Southpaw project, but certainly tougher than the likes of Yngwie & Treat.
There are some great melodic metal songs on Damage Done - Down And Out, Losing My Religion, Lonely People and Suicidal Mission.
Throw in a couple of mellower tunes - On My Own and Brand New Start and you get a well balanced album.
BOTTOM LINE: A great melodic metal album in the Euro-rock style. Backed by an impressive vocal performance by Mats Levin, Norgren's songs are brought alive and feature some top notch heavy riffing. One for fans of the heavier side of melodic rock and a soft spot for Swedish hard rock.
