How it all began:
With a simple demo–tape, recorded in the rehearsal room, MAD MAX got their first worldwide record deal on the dutch ROADRUNNER label and in 1984 they released the famous “ROLLIN' THUNDER” album, nowadays a wanted collectors item. In the USA, the album was distributed by the legendary METAL BLADE RECORDS label. After touring with URIAH HEEP and YNGWIE MALMSTEEN (with JEFF SCOTT SOTO on vocals), MAD MAX released their follow – up album “STORMCHILD” in 1985.
With their classic line – up MICHAEL VOSS (vocals, guitars), JUERGEN BREFORTH (guitars), ROLAND BERGMANN (bass) and AXEL KRUSE (drums) the band entered the studio with german top – producer DIRK STEFFENS (ACCEPT) to record the “NIGHT OF PASSSION” album in 1986 and got the album released in 1987. To promote the album, MAD MAX toured throughout Europe with the likes of PRETTY MAIDS and STRYPER.
How it all ended – Part 1:
1989 singer and main songwriter MICHAEL “VOSSI” VOSS left the band. He started touring with BONFIRE on their european tour. Back from the road and with a major record deal in his hands “VOSSI” started his new band “CASANOVA”. MAD MAX drummer AXEL KRUSE joined melodic rockers JADED HEART and guitarist JUERGEN BREFORTH formed TANNER, a melodic rock band with German lyrics.
How it all ended – Part 2:
POINT MUSIC brought MAD MAX together in 1999/2000 for just one album “NEVER SAY NEVER”, but this one was more or less a solo – album from “VOSSI” and JUERGEN.
There's more to life than this:
Besides his work with CASANOVA “VOSSI” established himself as a well known and very busy producer. Together with GARY BARDEN, the ex – lead singer of the MICHAEL SCHENKER GROUP and frontman of the band STATETROOPER, he formed SILVER and recorded and produced 5 records with the band (the latest one is called “GOLD” – September 2005). He also produced 3 records with BISS, the band of german guitar–wizzard DOC HEYNE, on vocals FERNANDO GARCIA – ex VICTORY, MICHAEL BORMANN – ex JADED HEART and MARC STORACE – KROKUS.
Through his reputation as a producer MICHAEL worked with the “big names” like DON AIREY, MICHAEL SCHENKER and BOB DAISLEY, to name a few.
MAD MAX drummer AXEL KRUSE went it “his way” successfully with JADED HEART, just releasing their new album “HELLUVA TIME” – october 2005.
MAD MAX is back:
Summer 2005 – JOVEL RECORDING STUDIOS – Muenster – Germany
MICHAEL, JUERGEN, AXEL and ROLAND are back together again recording 11 brandnew songs. The album will be called “NIGHT OF WHITE ROCK” and is going to be released by AOR HEAVEN in January 2006. VOSSI wrote and produced all the music and MAD MAX fans will love the very catchy choruses and the big guitars, but also the CASANOVA and JADED HEART maniacs surely will be pleased.
The main differences this time are to be found on the lyrical side. The lyrics, written by rhythm-guitar-player JUERGEN, are not the typical rock'n'roll lyrics. There's a christian background behind the statements. Songs like “Homeless” , “Bad day in heaven” or “Sun” don't preach, they show an optimistic view on the world today and an option, that to believe in something can sometimes make a change for the better. Some might call it a german version of STRYPER – well, not really, but it could be worse!
