Airborne were a late 70's hard rock outfit that should always have been bigger than they were.
Their debut album featured the line-up of (megastar producer) Beau Hill, John Pierce, Mike Baird, David Zychek and Larry Stewart.
The band were dropped by Columbia after their debut album was released and the line up changed, leaving only Beau Hill and David Zychek as original members.
The unreleased tracks that make up this release were recorded from 1978-1981 and sourced from Hill's own archives.
Backseat Driver and Just Say Please actually contained no lyrics, so they were added this year to complete the album. It's a nice touch.
These songs are a shapshot of a band with fabulous songs, huge potential and a knack of writing catchy pomp-rock tracks with big melodic hooks.
Tracks like the opening duo of Neon Hotel and Stranger are catchy as hell and fabulous examples of classic early American pomp rock.

The Bottom Line

Fans of early Styx, Triumph and the more pomp friendly Journey material will easily identify with these tracks, even if they are somewhat dated and not the clearest quality archived material ever heard.
That aisde, the energy and quality of the songs shines through. Should have been huge!
Classic early 80's, late 70's AOR / pomp rock that will appeal to all fans of archived releases.
