One of my favourite ever Billy Idol tunes is the acoustic live version of Rebel Yell that was included on the B-side of the Speed single some years ago.
So it pleasured to me no end to pick this CD up and hear Billy and guitar shred genius Steve Stevens doing their best tracks unplugged and live for the VH1 Storytellers show.
Wisely, the producers have removed the spoken word explanations, leaving those for the DVD and TV broadcast.
Such intros disrupted the similar Meatloaf Storytellers release.
Anyway, to this release – of 14 tracks, 8 are unplugged and 6 are with a full band. It makes for a cool variation and mixes things up nicely.
Billy may not be in the same vocal form his way several years ago, but he can still put on a show and the musical backing from Stevens makes this a real treat to listen to.
A finer acoustic rock guitarist I am yet to hear.
Every hit is covered here – in mostly energetic fashion, with the odd twist and turn.
A fabulous album not only for dedicated Billy Idol fans, but also for fringe dwellers, who can pick up a neat hits collection 'with a twist' right here.
My only complaint – no Catch My Fall, although the inclusion of Blue Highway almost makes up for that.

Points Summary - The Bottom Line

Great performance, great songs - no complaints there!
Live albums are a little different - the longer the better, so the running time is good, as is the sequence of the show.
Artwork is a little plain, but ok.
