Back in 1994 TNT vocalist Tony Harnell put together a side project with guitarist Al Pitrelli, drummer Chuck Bonfante and bassist Danny Miranda.
A New York posse if you will. The guys recorded a unique album for Mercury Records Japan.
It was later deleted and has been somewhat hard to find. For no good reason, no one has released it worldwide – until now!
Step in Escape Music, who has just released this fantastic album in their native UK. Copies will now be available worldwide for a reasonable price.
If you are new to this record, then don't leave it too long before purchasing.
As I said, it's a unique recording, featuring 8 classic rock covers and 4 originals, all recorded in a stripped back acoustic rock format.
It's a great pop rock album with some inspired covers. New life is breathed into classic rock tracks like Love The One You're With, What's Going On, One Of These Nights and Heart's Crazy On You.
Of particular brilliance are the ballads Desperado and Love Hurts, which Harnell nails.
Give A Little Bit is also a personal favorite, Harnell's vocals perfectly placed to take advantage of the song's harmonies.
But the best of all are the new tracks, written especially for the project.
The rich texture of multi-layered acoustic guitars from Al Pitrelli, soaring harmony vocals and a full rhythm section make for AOR heaven.
Just check out the monster anthem ballad Now More Than Ever – for fans of high pitched vocals and soaring harmonies, it just doesn't get any better!
Not Scared Anymore and Sun In Your Sky are also pretty classy, as is the guys own cover of TNT's Tonight I'm Falling, brilliantly intertwined with the Heart track.

The Bottom Line
|
It's laid back, acoustic driven, but boy, these guys have nailed these songs and the excellent production just enhances the experience. Fans of acoustic driven AOR and sweet harmonies need this.
A classic unplugged record and a classic 'classic rock' record, with a few new tracks as an added twist.
Tony Harnell's fine performance suits the songs covered and is recommended to any TNT fans and fans of high pitch vocalists.
Sundries: I prefer the original artwork, but minor point - the rest is magic!
