This is Mydra's second album. Funnily enough, it's titled II.
Mydra are a German band with a style not unfamiliar to fellow German rockers Bonfire.
The songs on this record were all recorded in 1990, this is another of those 'from the archives' releases. It was recorded after the band's 1988 debut, before they later split up.
Personally, I am not fussed when anything was recorded, just as long as the songs and sound are good.
This is.
The sound quality is remarkably good for recordings more than 10 years old.
The mix of keyboards and guitar hasn't dated the music too much, although it is a very late 80's sounding keyboard sound featured.
This is solid European 80's style melodic hard rock. The band must consider themselves unlucky for this not to be released at the time.
For it's time, this is very commercial hard rock, with touches of Bonfire, Whitesnake and possibly early Jaded Heart.
You know the style, you know the sound – just take on board that this set of songs is very good, very commercial and filled with great rock anthems and memorable hooks.
One of the more consistent albums of it's style released for a while.

Points Summary - The Bottom Line
|
Solid performance and good catchy songs are the order of the day. No complaints with sequencing or running time - just about right on both counts.
Production is obviously not as sharp as some other releases.
Artwork is effective, but relatively familiar.
