Review
|
Phil Naro has sung with a few different projects now – 24k, Blood Red Flower & Slav Simanic to name a few.
Now he back with his premiere vehicle Naro.
Glass Mountain is without doubt his best album to date.
The sum of all parts come together for Phil here – excellent production, sharp guitar riffs, great hook filled songs – all nailed into place with the best vocal performance I have heard from Phil yet.
24k had their moments, but tended to experiment too much.
Not so on Glass Mountain. This is 12 tracks of pure and classic melodic rock and AOR.
Phil's vocals are right on. It's often hard to vary the sound of someone with a higher pitch vocal, but Phil does just that.
Occasionally heading into a bluesy Robert Plant rasp, other times into a power wail, Phil nails every note.
The big thing for me here is the quality of the songs.
Each one has a killer chorus with more hooks than the average song quota!
For an AOR album, the tempo is pretty upbeat, from the opening good fun rocker Hot For You, to the stadium anthem (and AOR gem) Heartbreak In the Night, the heavier Bad Boys and attitude filled Spiritual Revolution, to the feel good pop rock of You & Me.
On My way Back To You is another soaring AOR anthem worthy of high praise.
This album has it all - lots of variation, lots of great melodic rock hooks and melodies and lots of killer lead vocals.
Definitely Phil Naro's best work yet and one of the better simple melodic rock releases for this year and from Z Records.

Points Summary - The Bottom Line
|
Phil's best vocal performance to date, plus his best songwriting to date. Add a sharp, crisp and clear production, perfect running time and excellent running order and you have a mighty fine record.
I like the artwork also, even with the familiar Photoshop effects.
