Pyn Siren have been a much hyped band in recent months and their debut had a lot to live up to. So here it is, like Skid Row's bastard son, blasting through my speakers with the attitude of a 1000 hairy rockers who have just been told the 80's are over.
True to form, Pyn Siren have a ton of attitude and this is a very high energy release.
From the singer right down to the rhythm section, these guys sound like a Self Titled/Slave To The Grind era Skid Row, with the volume on 11 and the pedal to the metal.
I can't help but think this album was recorded at the time the Skids were selling out arena's and maybe these guys just didn't luck out with the majors.
Either way, it's here now and anyone looking to relive the glory days of 88-92 and own Skid Row, Warrant, LA Guns and Quiet Riot albums, should take a look at this.
The albums 10 tracks are either loud or louder and fast or flat out. There isn't any slow down in pace, which is great in one way, but there is also a little issue of lack of variation. The songs themselves are all enjoyable, with powerhouse vocals and guitar solos galore. My only issue with any of them would be the need for some catchier choruses next time around.
Cry Me A River is a standout, as is Dance For Your Lover, both containing stronger choruses.

The Bottom Line
They have the sound, attitude and flair of Skid Row, but they don't quite have the same melodic knack that Sebastian and Co. had. The Skids wrote some really truly memorable heavy rock songs in their time and Pyn Siren would do well to try and include that missing element in their music.
That said, this is still a lot of fun and a great blast to the ears.
