Venice have been around for some times now – with several album sunder their belt. It's still a surprise to me that they aren't bigger and better known.
In any regards, maybe this release will change that. It's easily the best that I heave heard and is musically mature, intelligent, refreshing and perfect for an Adult Contemporary audience.
Musically the style is light AOR or pop/rock. The guys are a sweeter version of The Rembrandts, or a more AOR version of Jackson Browne.
Throw in a little Eagles mixed with the lighter side of Tom Cochrane and you have a decent representation of what this album is all about.
Sweet harmonies, layers of acoustic and light electric guitars, with a strong Danny Wilde styled lead vocal and background harmonies a la TaxiRide.
The 15 tracks included here guarantee great value and several variations in delivery stop the record from becoming boring. It's a little bit country, little bit retro, little bit pure AOR.
Open track Think Again is perfect feel good pop/AOR, while other tracks like Sun Inside are southern style pop/country and tracks like I'm Not Myself and Not Down Anymore are very intelligent acoustic pop ballads.

The Bottom Line
|
Generally this album might be a little soft for some, but if you appreciate some easy listening AOR, you would be doing well to find anything smoother and better crafted than this album.
And for Venice fans, this has to be the best album of the band's career. At 15 tracks the album is great value, but possibly one or two tracks too long.
But, as long as the style fits the mood, Welcome To... is a clear winner.
